Stillwater Counselling & Wellness honours and respects the diversity of those we serve.
We are committed to ensuring that your journey in counselling is individualized – reflecting your unique history, where you are at right now, and the specific goals you have in mind.
We offer in-person, virtual, and telephone counselling to individuals, couples, and groups.
If you’re reading this, it’s likely that your life isn’t exactly where you’d like it to be right now. You might be battling that ‘thing’ that always seems to find a way to drag you down – the thought that tells you ‘I can’t’, the feeling that keeps you at a distance from others, or the behaviour that never fails to trip you up.
You might be slogging through a challenging life transition – a divorce or separation, a growing or blending family, or a significant loss. You might be trying to navigate conflict with your partner without resorting to those things you said you’d never do.
Or, perhaps you’re doing your best to stay well during a pandemic that separates you from the people and places that brought meaning to your life. Sometimes life throws us challenges that can shake our confidence and make our hopes and dreams seem unattainable. I’ve been there, and I get it.
I am a registered clinical social worker and committed to helping you realize your hopes and dreams. Over the last 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people like you who have a desire for change and a willingness to reach out. I am warm, down-to-earth and compassionate. My approach is person-centred – allowing your values and aspirations to light the way.
I have extensive experience supporting individuals experiencing a range of personal and interpersonal challenges.
Have you ever struggled with painful thoughts, feelings, and experiences? You might be feeling stuck, alone, and in unfamiliar territory right now. I understand how difficult it can be to do this on your own. I know that it takes courage to be here.
The good news is that there is hope! You can learn how to recognize the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are holding you back. More importantly you can learn skills to handle the pain that inevitably comes your way so that you can begin to move in directions that help you enrich your life.
I am a registered clinical social worker, and my practice is based on honouring your inner strength and wisdom. Over the last ten years, I have supported individuals as they work towards creating a life that is rich and full of meaning. My approach is warm, non-judgemental and supportive. I strive to create a space where you feel heard, seen and welcomed.
I am passionate about helping individuals manage challenging and painful experiences.
Over the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of working with individuals like you who faced challenges and sought out support. You may be feeling stuck in an enduring situation that is eroding your sense of hope. You may be contending with that niggling ‘life-lacks-meaning’ feeling. You may be avoiding a distressing part of your life, secretly hoping it’ll just go away. I recognize the tremendous strength it takes to confront our challenges. I’d be honoured to help create a safe and validating space to support your heroic journey of overcoming.
As a person and counsellor, I strive to build relationships that are authentic, empowering, and affirming. My therapeutic approach is grounded in humanistic principles of acceptance and growth, and existential values of responsibility and freedom to choose. Reflecting these orientations, I have frequently been described as “understanding”, “empathic”, “accepting”, “knowledgeable”, and “trustworthy” by my clients. I do not believe in a ‘cookie-cutter’ or ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to helping. You are unique and my approach will reflect that.
I have extensive experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and addiction concerns.
At Stillwater Counselling & Wellness we start by offering a FREE 15-minute consultation before your
first counselling appointment. We recognize that counselling requires a commitment of energy,
emotion, and resources. We want to support you in making a successful investment as well as
informed decisions about your counselling.
Finding the ‘right’ counsellor is a challenging but important process. There are two important parts of
the consultation process: Firstly, it’s important that you feel safe, comfortable, and confident working ith your counsellor. The consultation provides you the opportunity to meet a prospective counsellor
and ask questions that are important to you. Secondly, it’s important that your counsellor is wellequipped to meet your needs. The consultation also provides an opportunity for your counsellor to
ask you questions, clarify your goals, and evaluate if their training and approach is well-aligned with
your needs.
Please note, the consultation is not counselling.
If there is a good fit between you and your
counsellor, you are welcome to schedule your first session
